Oahu has everything you are looking for! For shopping check out the Ala Moana Center - it’s the largest open-air mall in the world! For 5 star accommodations I suggest the Royal Ihilani Resort and Spa.

February is peak season, airfares & hotels are the most expensive. The outer islands have much less people. I prefer Maui 1/10th the population of Oahu.

They are all great places to go, and all of them have 5 star hotels. You might also think about renting a vacation house for the weekend. Sometimes it can even be cheaper then the hotels and some come with housekeeping, and other services. Plus you have all the comforts of home.

here is your answer I live on the islands and I would say Oahu would be first beause it has all of the shopping malls their like alamoana,aloha towers, hotels well most of all of them are good because they are all near the beach it just depends what beach u want to go to.for adventure diamond head hike, and polinitian cultural center. Also this is a must you have to go visit the war memorials and the wamea falls. Also if u are up to it try scuba diving or just snorkling. On friday night every week they have a firework show by the sheraton ( sorry no time) From Oahu it’s either Maui or Kauai.

With what you described, Oahu is where you will want to spend most of your time. But don’t limit yourself to just one island. There are tour packages that will take you to all four of those islands. I can’t speak about the Big Island or Maui, because I haven’t been there. But I bet they have some world class hotels and shopping there too.
Kauai is much more laid back and less populated. But it has some great hotels too. Look up the store called Two Frogs Hugging while there. It is amazing.

My daughter and her husband went there for their honeymoon, Dec 2 to Dec 9, 2007. She said it was the rainy season. But, said it was fabulous anyway. I think you are going at a great time. They are planning to go back next year, mid summer. Have fun!! Maui is great!

Why choose one island when you can have two. Do your shopping and nightlife in Waikiki for a couple of days then catch an Aloha Airlines flight for $39 ( see their website) to Kauai for the best sightseeing you will ever have while staying in some of the best hotels. I stayed at the Sheraton Kauai beach which was fantastic but next time it will be the Hyatt………….Aloha!!!!!!!!!

If you want a little bit of everything then you should definitely stay in Waikiki first. Shopping, the beach, night clubs, and other activities are readily available. If you want a nice 5 star class hotel in the middle of Waikiki then I would recommend the Halekulani. Have fun.

Really hard to say. A lot has to do with what you’re looking to do.
Oahu - beautiful… lots of tourists…lots to do… ie, Pearl Harbor, Hanauma Bay, Waimea, North Shore, Pineapple plantation, Diamond head, Polynesian Cultural Center, etc… lot’s of shopping too. (Honolulu is on the island of Oahu.)

Maui - beautiful… still tourists… shoping, Mt. Haleakala, Lahaina, beaches, more relaxed feeling than Oahu.

Hawaii (Big Island)… Volcanos National park. beaches etc.

If this is your first trip to the Islands I would probably recommend Oahu first. It would be the best way to learn the culture and get your feet wet. Lot’s to do, good food, and lots of vacation rentals on the Island. I prefer these over the busy hotel areas of Waikiki and Honolulu.

You are earning about $80,000.00 per year. It sure sounds like you can manage a vacation every few years, if not more. You sure sound like you have a head on your shoulders and have the finances under control.
Go for it!!!! Sit him down and tell him how you have earned the vacation and show him on paper. Both your choices are wonderful…. Both will be a great time and since he has never been on a cruise why not try it. The price you have is fantastic..

I traveled to Honolulu in May 2006, I had never been to Hawaii before. I stayed at the Outrigger. It was great! Just a tip anywhere you stay in Honolulu is going to pretty good because the whole island is surrounded by ocean. Also Honolulu was only a couple of blocks from the front of my hotel. Get on one of the travel programs and read the comments about each hotel. That is how I found the one I stayed at. Also you might want to scout around a bit before renting a car because the transporation there is great and it costs about 18-20 dollars a day to park at hotels. But if you do decide you would need a car no matter what then rent it as part of your package to go because the rental once you get there is outrageous.

I would say the island of Oahu. From there, you can fly to any of the other islands for a day trip.

how about the both of you putting money aside each week in a little container just for the trip, for example lets say you make 1500 a week, can you put away 200 in the end it sure does add up. And you won’t feel it as much.

I really like Maui… we went and stayed in Lahina, it was beautiful! And so many places are within driving distance… we went to the Garden of Eden, it was sooooo beautiful! So many beaches and rain forest on this island.

I’ve heard Kauai is great too, but Maui is a bit more tourist-y (but not as bad as the big island).

They all offer 5 star hotels, shopping, adventure, a little of everything. No matter which island you choose you are going to want to visit another island. You can fly to the big island in 30 min from Oahu… so I would plan to see at least two of the islands.

I think Kauai is the best. It is called the garden island and is very beautiful.
I would also add Honolulu to your trip. A stop there for shopping and the tourist places, then on to Kauai to relax and enjoy nature.
